OUR ANNUAL

NUMBERS

Higuayagua Taino of the Caribbean.

Higuayagua is a not-for-profit Cultural Organization dedicated to the research and rescue of all Taino cultural, linguistic and spiritual traditions that have survived in the Caribbean. Our mission is to preserve and disseminate information and cultural knowledge to instill pride in Caribbean people of their Indigenous ancestry. We are relentless in retelling the Caribbean history through Native eyes and perspectives. Just as with all Taino groups and organizations, we are here to dispel the Myth of extinction and write ourselves back into the history books. We understand and value our African and Spanish ancestries as well, but our focus is solely on Indigeneity. Our belief is that the Indigenous aspect of our Caribbean cultural and ethnic mosaic is the most neglected due to extinction narratives, thus our determination is unbending.
